Academy of Management Summer Conference 2014

The 74rd Academy of Management Annual Meeting takes place in Philadelphia between August 1-5 in 2014. It’s always quite an event with over ten thousand (yes, that’s not a typo) of management scholars and scholar/practitioners congregating over a five day period doing workshops, exchanging papers, catching up, discussing new trends and so on. There is also a ‘teaching and learning’ conference just before for those who want to pay extra attention to how we teach management to students. The resulting abundance of people, subjects, sessions and interactions is both disorienting and worthwhile. This year the program theme is ‘the power of words’ but know that most papers don’t necessarily adress that. Many people will present their materials and can be met there.

I have just found out they have also accepted both my submissions. So I will present a workshop with Cliff Oswick, Robert Marshak and Danielle Zandee on ‘Navigating institutional complexity: textual agency for cross-level change’. I am pretty sure that will be challenging us as well as the participants. Click here for the abbreviated proposal outlining the thema of the workshop. I will also present a professional development workshop with Leon de Caluwe on ‘Framing change: working with multiple perspectives on change’. Here we will give an introduction in the ‘color’ model of change and relate to the annual thema ‘the power of words’.

If you are considering to attend the conference this year as a Dutch consultant, you may consider joining Leon de Caluwe and Yvonne Burger. They are ‘academic fellows’ of the Professional Association of Dutch Consultants (OOA) and have offered to take member along this year. There are introduction meetings beforehand and meetings during the conference as well. Here’s more information if you are interested (in Dutch).
